MY DEAF AUDIO - ARE THE

EP: My Deaf Audio - Are the
New Black

My Deaf Audio have a predeliction for 70s garage rock and rhythm & blues.
Well, they probably think they do. On the evidence of this EP, their fascination
really lies with more modern revivalist acts. The Hives are obviously high on
their listening agendas, but the My Deaf Audio sound is a lot more measured, a
lot more controlled. There's none of the Hives unhinged urgency, none of
the Dirtbombs fuck-you attitude, and none of Randys sense of humour.
My Deaf Audio have four strong, solid, stompalong songs here. The requisite rolling
basslines, the necessary punch-the-air choruses, and the driving kick-drum are
all present and correct. They're a hell of a long way from being the next Rolling
Stones though, and something about the echo on the vocals sends them perilously
close to rockabilly/psychobilly territory at times.
File under close, but no cigar.
My Deaf Audio Are the New Black is out now on Bivouac.
