Wednesday
13th May 2008 -
May welcomes to the Bivouac a series of shows over the next two weeks that highlight
a greater diversity.
This Friday, after a two week break, we welcome THE SILENT FILM PROJECT (Light atmospheric Indie combo), GOODBYE WIRES (local new band with some excellent songs), JASPER CAIN (Grantham guitar rock trio), and local new comers THE NEXT BIG THING (young new guitar rock outfit).
The
weekend after, we have three shows in a row.
Friday 23rd - Local heroes RIDES THE BUS return to headline their allegedly final show with their catchy ska tinged good time anthems. Plus DOWN I GO return from London, featuring ex Jesse James members, playing their excellent "Dinocore"- fast, furious and comically short hardcore onslaught. If you saw them last time, you'll know what I mean. Other supports from PENNYLESS BEN (local ska tinged rockers), DRIVE BY THEORY (Indie) and a reformed TRY MY SHOES (thrashy three piece).
Saturday 24th - Out of towners RED VEIN headline (heavy guitar rock), with DIRTY AS MUCK (local, dual vocal, pop punk), UNION 23 (local punk glam rockers), and LAST COMMAND (local heavy metal).
Sunday
25th - Gaz
Mackie and The Bivouac present 4'
FINGERS. Headlining and back on tour (straight forward
fun melodic Punk Rockers), with locals THE FRONTLINE,and
CROTCH CAPERS (disturbingly named).
THURSDAY
27th March. Supports so far are THEY CALL
US VANDALS, and CRUISE CONTROL. Check
them out: www.myspace.comMonday 10th March 2008 - TOXIC GRAFFITI have now been added to the Saturday 22nd March show with TINY CITIES, LINDA'S NEPHEW and KID COSMIC. I NEED TO DISCOVER have pulled out again (this being the 5th Bivouac gig they have done so), and they didn't even bother to get in touch themselves. A big thanks to Olly from TOXIC GRAFFITI for letting us know.
Tuesday 19th Feb 2008 - This weeks long advertised headliner JOE ACTUALLY have had to pull out as their singer is in America. Stepping at the last moment, we welcome the return of THE ABSENT MINDED. Joining them from Grantham are up and coming THIS DAY REMAINS. This band have been hotly tipped by many people recently. Also on Friday we have DRIVE BY THEORY, new comers GOODBYE WIRES, and FOUND MISSING.
Thursday 24th Jan 2008 - More and more shows are being added. The LATEST NEWS comes from Scotland. DRIVE BY ARGUMENT had a one off date in Birmingham on Saturday 2nd Feb, in conjunction with Kerrang Radio. Luckily for us, they have agreed to play The Bivouac on Friday 1st February. Short notice, but it'll be fine. Supports come from local AUGUST UNDERGROUND and possibly TIGER WARSAW (yet to confirm), while introducing new band JASPER CAIN.
Monday 14th Jan 2008 - More shows are being confirmed, so if you are a local band, or a good quality touring band, that wants a slot, please get in touch.
Monday 14th Jan 2008 - Friday 4th's show at The Bivouac was another success, with Jay handling the sound for the entire show. Steve was at The Terry O'Toole Theatre looking after the Dress Rehearsal for Jack and The Beanstalk. All the bands played well and according to all who were there, Jay did an excellent job deputising for Steve. Shame someone stole an SM57 Mic from the stage that night. It's idiots like that that ruin the good nature of all the Bivouac shows. If the person concerned wants to return it to the bar downstairs nothing more will be said.
Wednesday 2nd Jan 2008 - Happy New Year to everyone. This Friday (4th Jan.) we welcome back the return of TOXIC GRAFFITI, TINY CITIES, and the reformed DRIVE BY THEORY. Plus from Oxford's Collisions and Consequences.
Tuesday 4th Dec - To confirm, this Friday we have THE IDLERS, AURORA STRIPE, CHARLIE JOHNS (solo), THE REPORTAGE and THE CONTACT. An all local affair.
Saturday (8th) sees the return of ROTARY TEN, TV KICKS, and the debut appearance of Warner Record's new Liverpool signings REBBECA. These guys have supported THE WOMBATS and HARD FI. Also on this Saturday show, with doors opening at 7pm, will be Harry John's new band THE OLD ROMANTIC KILLER BAND, THE RAYS and THE PETTY THIEF.
Friday 14th December we welcome from South Wales THE UNSUNG, featuring ex members of THE LOST PROPHETS; A FALLEN HERO, featuring members of MCD and RIDES THE BUS, plus DEFNATION and at least another band tbc.
Thursday 15th Nov- Just announced the forthcoming shows at The Bivouac @ The Duke of Wellington (see above). The welcome return of THE IDLERS (7th Dec) and ROTARY TEN (8th Dec). Also playing with Rotary Ten is a newly signed band from Liverpool REBBECA (recently supported fellow Liverpudlians THE WOMBATS, and HARD FI) and Harry Johns' new band THE OLD ROMANTIC KILLER BAND.
The last week in November we welcome A CIRCLE OF ONE, who were to be joined by ANEMIC, but they are currently looking for a new full time drummer. Supports from STARTER and COLORPOOL, and hopefully another local band.
Saturday 24th November sees the return from Scotland of DRIVE BY ARGUMENT, supported by SIRES OF NOTHING, VIRILE and one or two more local bands (tbc).
Wednesday 17th Oct - Confirmed this Friday (19th) the line now is AURORA STRIPE (acoustic set), The Happy Mirrors, The Goolies, and Joe Mac.
Sunday 14th Oct - This coming Friday (19th) we have an all local affair with THE HAPPY MIRRORS, THE GOOLIES and JOE MAC presently confirmed. We hope to confirm another one or two local bands to this bill shortly. Friday 26th Oct, a week later, we welcome for the first time A DAY CALLED DESIRE, supported by local's LAST PROMISE, THE REPORTAGE and ESTEEM. A reminder please for people to bring age confirming ID to the shows to gain guaranteed entry.
Saturday 6th Oct - Finally, someone completely gets what the "Live Bivouac" experience is all about. Captured in a Live Review by regular attendee Pete. He's the city's resident photographer and long term gig goer. You can often spot Pete onstage, side stage, or in the audience snapping away at all of the cities live music hot spots. I'm printing this review below in full. I am grateful and acknowledge Lincolnbands.co.uk for publishing this review, a mere day after the show. Fast for Lincoln and a pleasure.
There
was a good crowd outside which minutes before The Mark 9s opened
suddenly piled up the stairs and filled the room. Without so much as a word
from any of the three members of the band they just freaked into their first song
with an energy that was unexpectedly savage. Mixing sax and bass and drums
it was something fresh and full of surprise and conviction. Absolutely sorted
structurally, all the way through, with nothing messy or rambling. Full
of intent and yet played with something close to abandon. Now thats
impressive. Intriguingly there were no vocals at all, nothing, no banter,
no naming of songs or sappy this is our new one or you can find
us at Myspace at - no no no - just the music on on on. Full on. Steve
on sax, Luke on bass and Bryce on drums. As the set progressed the crowd
moved in closer and got more excited and into it. Every now and then at
a gig you get that little thrill of euphoria, it always comes as a surprise and
it leaves a mark on you for ever, somewhere invisible. This one Ive
got now is the mark of the Mark 9s. Special mention to Luke, the dandy
on the bass guitar, which was sounding spectacularly, disdainfully dark.
It was as if the strings had been slackened off a tad then played unrepentantly,
recklessly and what should have been awkward and challenging was somehow completely
accessible. Whatever the wayward heritage of this bands sound I feel
lucky that they currently reside in my town. Blissed fall out from this
one.
Viriles
lineage is New York by Manchester. They opened with a simple, forceful synching
of guitars and drums, four guys pushing out a forceful beat that gets you up out
of bed and ready to go without any breakfast after just the first grinding opening
bars. Then as soon as youre safely buckled up they pull off a little
handbrake turn of a key change and swing round their direction then just when
youre dazzled by that effect they hit that accelerator again and youre
pinned back. They sound big, like an articulated lorry, traveling at speed,
on an icy road - and its fuckin amazin fun! More more
more faster faster! Lanky Paul delivers his vocals in a kinda monotonous
cartoon character voice which also has something of The Fall about it which is
enough of a reason to back off questioning it too much. But its curious
and gives the band an unexpected funny quirkiness. Irreplaceable drummer
Lizzie has recently been replaced and has hung around a while to help Jimmy the
new guy to attempt the impossible and be confident enough to go for it - to the
point of destruction of his sticks with splinters flying as he lashed off the
ripped skins. Yeah, this is a powerhouse band and their material has a lot
of credibility, a sound that once it gets in gear just keeps right on coming.
With
the two local bands having played it was time for the visitors - and some people
stayed to listen! Supporting The Harrisons on their tour are I Say Marvin,
from Cornwall. Unsigned but not unloved plenty of people stuck around to
enjoy them and again it was a complete change of style. Emotronic pop!
Looking young enough to be the kid brothers of The Harrisons (if not their sons)
they must be hyper excited to be playing gigs all over the country and not just
in their home town - and they won everyone over both with their sheer energy and
some sparkly songs. Their work-rate extended to some punky showcase stage
moves and its kinda a miracle no-one got hurt considering the limited space
available. They all got through it undamaged and still coming on with the
attack all the way to the end. I Say Marvin, you are an heroic little band.
The
Harrisons, establishing a growing rep in Sheffield had maybe wondered where
people had gone when they stepped up on stage to find more than half the room
had now emptied. A local phenomenon and a bit embarrassing but fortunately
it didnt unnerve them - they look lived-in blokes whod maybe take
a helluva lot to do that. Despite the fact none of the band are actually
named Harrison they do have to have respect for keeping it real, cos they are
an honest band who must have put the work in and kept gigging year in year out
and so have earned their chance of some wider recognition. Hm. The issue
for me, though, is whether they have the edge that is gonna get them it.
While the songs happily dont have much of that bandwagon Arctics sound going
on they seem to lack any engaging identity of their own. If this band was
from Lincoln theyd have a small hardcore fanbase but wouldnt get a
look in outside the local circuit. Lead singer Adam Taylor comes across
as a dedicated songwriter and seasoned performer but for me theres something
missing and for a horrible moment at the end I felt really guilty for being tempted
to label them a pub band. (I still feel a fuckin twat writing it now.)
Theyre not that but in my opinion theyre not realistic contenders
to engage the nations hearts either. Ah. "
Monday 24th Sept - This Friday sees the welcome return of WORLD ON FIRE from Harlow, ably supported by local's I DID LAST NIGHT, BLACKLIGHT and TRY MY SHOES. Coming soon we have THE HARRISONS from Sheffield. This band are doing very well in their native Sheffield, headlining The Leadmill, and are making their presence felt in the rest of the country. Up and coming and not to be missed. Supporting THE HARRISONS are I SAY MARVIN, local's VIRILE and THE MARK 9's. Following them we welcome NEVER SAY DIE, and the ever popular MISS CONDUCT to the Bivouac.
Monday 24th
Sept -
A Personal View from Steve Hawkins (Bivouac Promoter)
-Long time since there was an up date. The last few months have been very quiet
on the audience front. Despite the fact that more advertising and promoting
has occurred than ever before. In fact, the whole of Lincoln has been very quiet.
The city is dead at night, ...everywhere. Why?
No one's sure. Possible reasons are continually postulated. Weather, smoking ban, drink prices, road works, people holidaying away disrupting the usual social group patterns, all are contenders. Apart from the recent WOMBATS show in August, and THE TOXIC GRAFFITI (allegedly final show) and NIGHT MOVES debut in September, the venue has been more than quiet. All the visiting touring bands over the summer have played good sets to no avail. So what's gone wrong?
And it's not just at The Bivouac. The city center's dead. The Traveler's Rest is a grave yard. Twice now visiting touring bands, who were booked to play there, have found the place deserted. With even the promoter's not showing up to meet the bands. We know only because we have added those visiting bands to our night's line ups with absolutely no notice, but in order to help out. Paying petrol money to these unfortunate bands who have been promised so much from other Lincoln promoters in bad faith.
Crash Doubt seem to have stopped altogether. The Mezz Bar is free entry, and so presumably the local bands who play there don't get paid. What's the point? How do you evaluate the worth of a band, their audience, or develop any sound local economy if it's all free. You don't. It's a colossal waste of time and energy. A cul de sac of empty promise. A dead end. Any shit local band can claim the earth when it's all free. Do you have no self respect? And so we have the pathetic and dismal free festival looming there. 16 bands playing for free, with free entry, to bolster their cheap egos and allow the bar owner to make a killing. It's all so wonderful, free and fake.
Added to all the above, Lincoln is witnessing a massive cull of local bands. So many have called it a day over this summer. The new local bands forming in their wake either feel they are not yet ready to gig (fair enough), or are simply too shy to ask us for a show. If you don't ask, we can't help you. Half the time we don't even know you exist. That Lincoln trait of being so invisible strikes again. Do us all a favour, take to the stage with some form of determination and presence. Call us. I have touring bands wanting to play in Lincoln, but if I put them on without local supports, no one bothers to come and see them. And I mean, no one.
The Bivouac is a great little venue that actively supports all the local bands who play their own material. We have put more into, and paid out more money to, the local band scene over the last 7 years than any other venue or promoter in this city. What is your problem? You only have to see the endless procession of wannabe promoters who have tried to copy us, ...badly. Who have all come and gone, and failed. Most didn't even bother to pay the bands, just pocketed the money. No receipts, no transparent accounting or records. Certainly not registered with the Tax authorities. So why do the local bands have anything to do with these cowboys? Because they just don't think it through, and they are so desperate. I've heard some horror stories over the years concerning some of these characters. They all think it's easy. It's not. They are all helped by the lack luster, lazy attitude of half the local bands around. These local bands play "free entry" shows in quick succession in Lincoln, and wonder why no one takes them seriously. Stop and think it through.
This seems an eternal request, but please, local bands try and take yourselves seriously. Work out what you are doing, and why, and then strategise to make it work out for you. If you are playing a gig in a place that's free entry, and you are not getting paid, who are you fooling?
Thursday 6th Aug - This weekend we have three shows. Friday's headliners are local's THE BLUE ROUTE, with ST 45TH, AUGUST UNDERGROUND, and LAST PROMISE. Sunday, we welcome the return of THE LURKERS with ex Lincolnite ARTHUR BASSICK (legendary late 1970's Punk Rockers), supported by DISARRAY! and ST 45TH. We offered this show to THE FRONTLINE, and we are still waiting, despite assurances to the contrary, for a response either way. The universe hurtles on and still some in Lincoln sleep. Monday we have the rescheduled gig from last June. THE WOMBATS finally make their Bivouac debut this Monday, and tickets are still available. Supports are the same as the previous booking, namely THE WALLBIRDS, VIRILE and AURORA STRIPE.
Thursday
9th Aug -
We can confirm the line up for Friday the 5th Oct. Up and coming Sheffield band

The Makers from that town) make their Bivouac debut. Catch these guys

Support comes from I SAY MARVIN, THE
IDLERS and VIRILE.

Finally
FLEEING FROM FINALES return
to Lincoln for Friday 24th August.
Tuesday 31st July - "Navigate This! 2007" came and went at The Engine Shed, Drill Hall and The Bivouac @ The Duke of Wellington. The British Sea Power show at The Engine Shed, with 6 local/regional bands as support, happened on the day it seemed to have rained forever. In fact, it rained all day and all night, and most of that week. Nicely coinciding with the weekend that Middle England flooded. We struggled to get an audience. The show still happened, despite two idiots parking their cars in front of fire exits. The specially designed and built stage set worked, giant moving sails meant turn around times between bands were minimal, the lights looked great and people seemed to have enjoyed it. A lot of work and a lot of effort. Unfortunately, a lot of rain damped the spirits and kept many people away. Thankfully, The Drill Hall fared much better. Particularly on the Saturday night, when it had finally stopped raining. By then we all knew about the terribly flooding in other parts of the Midlands. Wettest Summer on record and we knew it. The Bivouac's Friday and Saturday shows were also poorly attended, but the perseverance awards of the weekend must go to both Michael Roach and Midasuno. Both Mr Roach (currently living in Cheltenham) and Midasuno (South Wales) battled their way through the floods, stuck to the laborious diversions, and made it eventually to both The Drill Hall and The Bivouac stages in time. Midasuno played probably one of their best shows yet at The Bivouac. Most of you missed it.

DRIVE BY ARGUMENT played an excellent show last
night. It's obvious why they are on the same label as The Killers. DRIVE
BY THEORY played their last show last night. The band have called it
a day, splitting into two new groups. Musical differences? The two new bands,
JOE ACTUALLY and THE NIGHT
MOVES, will be ready for shows in August and September respectively.

Engine Shed's band line up is almost fully confirmed. Details will be announced
very soon. Taking place over the weekend of The Council's Water Festival, navigate
this! 2007 will be hosted by The Bivouac, The Drill Hall and The Engine Shed.
The Bivouac will be presenting both shows at The Engine Shed (cap 1400), and
at it's traditional home, Bivouac @ The Duke of Wellington, on Friday 20th July.
Saturday 9th June- Last night's show had to be canceled due to High Society parting company with their long term lead singer two days earlier. Also, Try My Shoes turned up without their full backline, assuming they would be able to share the other band's equipment. Finally, Kensal Rise turned up very late, and drunk! Enough said. I'm a tolerant person, but not that tolerant.
Friday 2nd June- Last night's show went ahead as usual, with Virile and Aurora Stripe playing, on what is our regular Friday night. The Wombats and Wallbirds appearance should be rescheduled. Most people have now been reimbursed for their advance tickets. If you haven't yet, please contact us and we will naturally reimburse you. As soon as the new date is confirmed, we will let everyone know.
Friday 1st
June-
Just confirmed for Friday 22nd of June from Scotland are
:( colonopenbroacket.
This electro new pop combo are not to be missed. Think IWACS meets ICE CREAM
SOCIAL, and you are on the
right
lines.
Wednesday 30th May - The Wombats have had to cancel the next 7 shows on their UK tour due to the singer's tonsillitis. This includes Friday's Bivouac show in Lincoln. The band's appearance will be rescheduled to a later date. Probably in August. All Advance Ticket holders will be reimbursed. There still will be a show on Friday 1st June featuring the remaining bands, and, if time allows, another added local band.
Friday
18th May
-
Sunday
20th May - The excellent TINY DANCERS
(Parlophone Records), GREAT BRITISH SMILE, THE
SILVER LAKES, and STREET 45TH. Indie Night!
Tickets for this show are currently on sale at The Duke of Wellington bar downstairs.
10th May 2007 - No show this Friday (11th) as we are in Grimsby doing sound for a Theatre show at The Auditorium Theatre (2000 cap). But we will be back next weekend with three shows in a row.
Monday 28th
May
-This coming weekend is our 7th
year birthday bash. Headlining our traditional Friday night is up and coming
band, THE WOMBATS. Heavily rotated on MTV,
this Liverpool
three
piece sould entertain as much as the recent TINY DANCERS
show. Support comes from THE WALLBIRDS, VIRILE
and AURORA STRIPE.
Saturday 2nd June, ONE BIG WELLINGTON BOOT introduces to Lincoln, from New York City, INDIAN JEWERLY. Support comes from THE EXPLOITS OF ELAINE, and other local supports to be announced. Expect the unexpected.
The
MCD Album was successfully launched last night, and
went down a storm. Certainly we all wish Gaz,
Danny and Matt all the
best. Looking forward to all their future musical projects and, as yet to be born,
bands. A minutes silence was held before the last song of the evening by MCD,
and the joyous clapping and applause from the whole room would have been exactly
what Callum would have wanted. His untimely death
is still very deeply felt by all.
24th April
2007 -BREAKING NEWS:
Just confirmed, TINY DANCERS, now

include a self addressed stamped envelope. Office address, Bivouac, c/o The
I.C.E. Group, 3 St Andrews Street, Lincoln, LN5 7NE.
21st April 2007 -Just heard last night, directly from the band themselves, that ONE WORD POEM's show, at The Bivouac on Friday 4th May, will be their last. Reasons as to the parting of the ways are as yet uncertain. Sad news indeed.
21st April 2007 - Tickets for MCD's memorial show will be on sale from behind the bar at The Duke of Wellington from 11am Monday 23rd April. Priced at £5.00. I suspect this will be a popular show, so please get your tickets in advance.
21st April 2007 - TINY CITIES, T.V. KICKS, DRIVE BY THEORY and TRY MY SHOES played The Bivouac last night to a packed audience. Band of the night, by far, were certainly TV KICKS (who just get better and better). DRIVE BY THEORY played probably their best show to date. Good luck to Lincoln's DRIVE BY THEORY and TINY CITIES on the rest of their respective current UK Tours.
This Friday should be another excellent night with Headliner's DETONAL STATE, DOWN I GO (featuring 2 members of Jesse James), THE ABSENT MINDED, TOXIC GRAFFITI, and new band BORDERLINE (ex Negative IQ).
9th April 2007 - Just a quick reminder that The Bivouac will be featured on the Cannel Four show 'Get Your Act Together', featuring Harvey Goldsmith, on Tuesday 10th April at 9pm.
4th April 2007 - Last Friday's and Saturday's shows went very well. Particularly Saturday's I WAS A CUB SCOUT show, which SOLD OUT.
This Friday (6th) we welcome the return of DOPAMINE, with supports from Italy's DUFRESNE, Sheffield's COLORPOOL, with local's VIRILE and FOR NO REASON.
Saturday (7th April) ONE BIG WELLINGTON BOOT Promotions host another one of their eclectic nights. Six bands/combos, two from Oxford (JONQUIL and THIS TOWN NEED GUNS) and the headliner N0 AGE from USA. Remarkable value!
26th March 2007 - Friday's show with Jesse James sold out early and went down exceedingly well. Pity they are splitting up, but after 7 years together I guess the itch comes to us all.
JUST
IN,
by email, from Ten Alps is the news I've been waiting for. The
HARVEY
GOLDSMITH TV Series for Channel Four, entitled GET
YOUR ACT TOGETHER, starts tomorrow night,
Tuesday 27th March, 9pm. The third episode, Tuesday 10th
April 9pm, features Harvey with SAXON, and
should include footage filmed during SAXON's "Mystery
Band" performance at The Bivouac last October
2006. This first episode, tomorrow night at 9pm on Channel 4, features Harvey
with Samantha Mumba.
26th March 2007 - Friday's gig at The Bivouac welcomes touring band SHELLSHOCK, local Punk outfit DISARRAY, and Boston's THE SIEGE, featuring Tom Ogilvie (ex Catapult) on Drums.
26th March 2007 - Saturday welcomes back I WAS A CUB SCOUT, on their mammoth UK Tour. Support comes from Sheffield's ROLLO TOMASI, TV KICKS, and THE PETTY THIEF. Tickets are currently on sale from behind the downstairs bar at The Duke of Wellington priced £ 6.00.
19th March 2007 - Currently on sale from behind the bar (downstairs) at The Duke of Wellington are Advance Tickets for two upcoming shows at The Bivouac. JESSE JAMES tickets for Friday 23rd March are now on sale at £ 7.00, as are I WAS A CUB SCOUT tickets for Saturday 31st March at £ 6.00.
18th March 2007 - Last Friday saw another good turn out for the GET AMPED show. The Jubilees played to the biggest audience of the night. Saturday saw the welcome return of HOWARDS ALIAS, who played a blinder.
7th March 2007 - This Friday we welcome THE IDLERS, celebrating their 1st Birthday Anniversary, together with various other local bands. Also playing the bill are UK guests SANTA KARLA. Expect a mixed bill.
As some of you may have heard, we recently managed to book as headliner for Friday 1st June, up and coming UK combo THE WOMBATS. "It's all Indie Rave Now". Currently having their latest single heavily played on MTV, and other media shows. Official main support will be THE WALLBIRDS, together with locals VIRILE and AURORA STRIPE.
22nd Feb 2007 - QUESTIONS TO ALL THE LOCAL BANDS. Since subtlety doesn't really work in this town, I guess I'll spell it out.
WHY, O WHY, ARE LOCAL BANDS PLAYING CHRISTOPHER'S BAR AND THE TRAVELLERS REST, WHEN ALLEGEDLY THE PROMOTERS THERE DON'T PAY THE BANDS?
IS IT TRUE THAT THE BIVOUAC IS THE ONLY VENUE/PROMOTER TO PAY THE LOCAL BANDS ANYTHING DECENT?
WHEN WILL THE LOCAL BANDS STOP PLAYING SHOWS FOR FREE? ARE YOU NUTS....?
AND FINALLY...
WHEN WILL THE LOCAL BANDS REALISE THAT IT'S STUPID TO PLAY MORE THAN ONE SHOW IN LINCOLN PER FORTNIGHT, OR EVEN PER MONTH? YOU OVERPLAY LINCOLN, YOUR AUDIENCE SHRINKS.
PLEASE, ... FOR YOUR SAKE, ... WISE UP!
What will happen tomorrow/Friday night? Probably PUBLIC RELATIONS EXERCISE will play on their own, and the entry price will be reduced to £ 2.00. The doors will be at 8pm and the band will take the stage at 8.30pm. Probably!
16th Feb 2007 -Tonight at The Bivouac we have ANEMIC, LOSING SON, TOXIC GRAFFITI and making their Bivouac debut, AURORA STRIPE. Tomorrow night we warmly welcome TROUBLES (side project band from THE HOPE OF THE STATES) and Redditch's pop trio KEIKO.
Since the introduction 4 weeks ago of the entry wrist bands system, we have become aware of some confusion concerning the age entry criteria. The situation is as follows:
ENTRY
TO ALL SHOWS REMAINS 16+
If you are 16 or 17 (with Photo ID proof) you will
be given a coloured printed wrist band to prove you are under 18 years of age.
You will not be able to consume alcoholic drinks on the premises, but can enter
and see the shows.
If you are 18 or above (with Photo ID proof, if challenged*)
you will be given a different coloured printed wrist band to prove you are 18
years of age or older.
If you are 18 or above (with no Photo ID proof, if
challenged*) you will be given the same coloured printed wrist band that 16
and 17 year olds receive. Meaning you will not be served alcohol.
*If you look under 21 years of age, you may be challenged for Photo ID to prove your age with regard to consuming Alcoholic Drinks on the premises.
I hope this clears up any confusion concerning entry to the Bivouac.

Friday 19th, we have 4 local bands (STREET 45TH, TRY MY SHOES, THE MARK 9's and GRITO GRITO) and a solo performance from Red Lorry Yellow Lorry's main man CHRIS REED. Chris was previously a resident in Lincoln, but now resided back in his native Leeds.
Saturday 20th January, Crash Doubt starts their year with THE MINGERS (from Leeds), FRONTLINE, and THE SHUFFLE (from Macclesfield).
Thursday week (25th) sees the return of another Lincoln University Arts Students Benefit night. These final year students need to raise £5000 for their end of course Final Show. This will display all their best work in a venue (tba) later in the year, and the costs have to be met by the Students themselves. That Thursday night represents just one of the many activities and events these Arts Students have undertaken to raise their profile and necessary cash. SPATCH, STARTER, an acoustic BLUE ROUTE performance and one other group will be playing that night.
1st Jan 2007 -First gig of the year, Friday (5th Jan) we have JYIN'S CAVERN, VOICE OF TREASON, THE PETTY THIEF (Tim from 16 Hours), and new band LAST COMMAND.
A week later, Friday (12th Jan), ONE WORD POEM return after their bass player's torn ligaments accident late last year put them temporarily out of action. GREAT BRITISH SMILE (Pele) also kick off their year on the 12th, together with VIRILE and Grantham's THE LOST HEARTS. An excellent line up
20th Nov 2006 - Friday (24th) we welcome back Bristol's I AM THE DOOR. They played at The Bivouac last February supporting the excellent Keiko, and along side The Blue Route and SoSuMi. This Friday they play alongside ICECREAM SOCIAL (featuring ex members of Afraid To Shoot Strangers) playing their first show, new local band THE JACKALS, with EXIT STATE from Burnley, Lancashire opening proceedings.
15th
Nov 2006 - This Friday, we
have, coming up from London, Pull Tiger Tail.
A keyboard bashing, guitar based trio, who will most definitely entertain. Try
My Shoes return as main local support, with the addition of Harlow's
indie guitar combo World on Fire opening. This
band played previously in the summer, and had to endure a heap of bad luck last
time with their van. See you on Friday.
More dates coming up, and if any local bands require slots on any forthcoming shows, then just call 01522 528964. Please leave a message on the answer phone, with a return telephone number. We always get back to people, but if you don't leave a message with your number, we can't. I'm amazed how many people ring without leaving a message. It's a tool for your benefit, so use it!
15th Nov 2006 - The Third Annual "8 Days A Week" Festival has now finished, and was the best line up yet. More people came to see some excellent bands than the previous years. So, a success! Buzzkill were a fantastic band to finish the extended week. If you were there, you would know, and would most definitely agree.
30th Oct 2006 - The Third Annual "8 Days A Week" Festival starts this Friday. 8 Days of shows featuring British and American touring bands, playing with some of the best local groups of this last year. Always taking place at the Bivouac from the first Friday to the next Friday in November. 8 continuous days of shows with 32 different groups playing throughout the week. Ticket prices vary per night from £ 5 to £7, but with a special £20.00 Ticket for entry to all 8 Show Nights. Bargain! See above for the complete line ups.
29th Oct
2006 -
As
you will all now realise, the "Mystery Band",
who headlined Friday (27th) just gone, was SAXON.
80's exponents of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, inspiration to a fledgling
Metalica all those years back, took to the stage at 8.30pm for this free show.
The queues ran out of the building, into the carpark and quite a long way down
Broadgate. We turned away some 450 people after we reached our fire limit capacity.
Sorry to all those who couldn't get in.
This
best kept secret was maintained right up to 12.05pm on the Friday in question,
when the band's crew arrived all sporting 'Saxon'
T Shirts. Bit of a give away after that. Still many hoped it would be The
Cure, The Human League, Def
Leopard or similar.
Nonetheless
Ten Alps, the TV Company making the program, were very pleased with the
resulting footage, and everyone had a good time.
Harvey
Goldsmith loved the place and the whole event was fantastic fun. Indie
popsters Great British Smile played a blinder
to a very appreciative audience. They just get better and better. Check them
out again on Tuesday 7th Nov as part of this year's 8
Days A Week Festival.
A
very big thanks to all those taking part, and I'm sorry not everyone could be
accommodated. We made page 2 in the Echo on the
very next day. A large news and review piece with photo. I've also been informed
that the program should air on Channel Four
next March/April 2007. Can't wait.
Friday's headliners are I WAS A CUB SCOUT with Londoner's FLIPRON as main support. DRIVE BY THEORY return and TRY MY SHOES debut as opener.
Saturday, we welcome back from Boston, USA, CAMPAIGN FOR REAL TIME. SECOND MONDAY (Worcester), ALMA BOOBIES (Horncastle, via Australia), and MASENKO support.
Sunday, One BIG Wellington Boot Promotions hosts THE UNIT AMA from Newcastle, Dublin's LaFARO, WEREWOLVES IN THEIR YOUTH, and openers THE DEAF OFFENDERS.
11th Oct 2006 -The new line up DETONAL STATE are confirmed as the main support for DRY KILL LOGIC at The Bivouac on Wednesday 8th November. The other supports go to GAPING AXE WOUND and VOICE OF TREASON.
4th Oct
2006 - Just confirmed today, as part of their "Of
Vengeance and Violence" Tour, and as part of this year's
8 Days A Week Festival, from New York City,
Dry
Kill Logic. New York Metalists, at the moment on tour in Australia
with Fear Factory and Devil Driver, will be headlining the Bivouac on Wednesday
8th November as part of their UK Tour. New Album
"Of Vengeance and Violence" just released. This
tour date to be added to their site shortly, but it's confirmed nonetheless.

1st Oct 2006 - Friday's show was another good night. Thanks to all who came. Fleeing From Finales didn't show because the singer reported in ill. The Blue Route did an excellent job headlining.
Check out the updated UPCOMING SHOWS for the latest Bivouac show details.

Supports for The Desperado show on Thursday Oct 5th are The Absent Minded, Analysis Failed and new band, Voice of Treason. DESPERADO have been described as an innovative hardcore punk band. Somewhere between REFUSED and BLOOD BROTHERS, and a more ballsy, less pretentious HIVES.
24th Sept 2006 - "Friends of The Bivouac" myspace site is seemingly popular. We are very glad of this. Soon we hope to announce the final line ups for this year's 8 Days A Week Festival.
22nd Sept 2006 - Tonight we have LOSING SUN, COLORPOOL, THE ABSENT MINDED and YOU IN MOTION (their first ever gig). Saturday, Bivouac welcomes Crash Doubt Promotions and their relaunch gig,

About to embark on their biggest UK Tour to date, throughout October, supporting TOKYO ROSE (USA). The band hail from the South West of England and play the Bivouac in November before heading for the studio to record their debut album. www.myspace.com/thecedarfallsband
20th Sept 2006 - Rumours have been circulating about a free show this Thursday (21st Sept) at the Bivouac. The truth is, there is NO FREE SHOW tomorrow.
However,
there is a free show being planned for Friday 27th October. At the moment, that
is all we can reveal. This is a complicated show involving many participants.
It has to be fully confirmed by all parties
involved
before we can announce any more details.
20th Sept 2006 - Set up last Thursday, we now have our own linked myspace.com/friendsofthebivouac site. This associated site will truely complement this official Bivouac site. The concept is simple. Friends of the Bivouac will only "add" those who come to the shows ("we the audience"), and those bands who have played at the Bivouac since it was launched. Through the Friends of the Bivouac site, we can read your comments, bulletins, email messages and try to keep in touch with, what is fast becoming a more mature local music scene. It's all grist to the mill. So if you fancy, add your link.
15th Sept 2006 - Things are hotting up for this year's (3rd) annual 8 DAYS A WEEK Festival in November.
Just confirmed
today is the latest headliner.
AMMUNITION
AFFAIR from USA, on their first UK tour, featuring ex members of
F MINUS and DIE HUNS. The band headline
Sunday 5th November. Also confirmed so far are Glasgow's THE
COSMIC ROUGH RIDERS (Sat 4th Nov) and Leeds' BUZZKILL
(Fri 10th Nov). More to be added soon.
8th Sept 2006 - Next two shows occur this coming weekend. Friday 15th Sept sees the welcome return of Bournemouth's GET AMPED. The pop/rock (Sting and The Police inspired) surfing three piece complete their current Summer Tour here in Lincoln, ably supported by THE IDLERS , DRIVE BY THEORY and STREET 45TH.
While on Saturday 16th Sept we have Dave and Sam's Wellington Boot Promotions night featuring from New York City AWESOME COLOR. Other groups playing that night are Nottingham's LORDS and LOVVERS, London and Lincoln's DOLLYMOPS (Whelk Attachment Singer's new band), IODO, JYIN'S CAVERN and laptop duo ARTHUR FOX. Please note, Doors open earlier than usual at 6pm.
Their first show, the Re-Launch Gig, will be on Saturday 23rd September. Full details to be announced soon. Door prices on all Crash Doubt shows will normally be £4, unless otherwise advertised. Further, in line with all Bivouac/Duke of Wellington shows, the 16 year plus entrance policy will always apply.

Headliner's
AWESOME COLOR (from New York City,
USA),

Ist Sept 2006 Bivouac welcomes back from South Wales the heavy rockers MIDASUNO, ably supported by locals FOR NO REASON and TOXIC GRAFFITI. This is the rescheduled gig from earlier in August.
Friday 8th Sept's show is still to be confirmed.
Friday 15th's show will be the return of Pop/Police inspired trio GET AMPED from Bournemouth. Supports will be THE IDLERS, STREET 45th and one other to be confirmed.
Saturday 16th's show, promoted by Sam and Dave, will see the return of the New York Indie Rock trio AWESOME COLOR. These guys have just finished an American Tour supporting their mates SONIC YOUTH, and were the headlining band back in December at the show were Steve Hawkins lost his little finger. Looking forward to this band's return. If you like excellent garage rock, these guys won't disappoint. Supports are still to be confirmed, but include YOU SLUT!.
Friday plays host to an all local affair with The Frontline, Lipstick Entourage, Plunger/A Fighting Chance, and Werewolves in their Youth.
Sunday's stripped down Owned Fest features Palehorse, Red Stars Parade, Patient Zero, Flatlands and Joseph. Palehorse feature ex members of Million Dead and are from London. Doors for Sunday open at 7pm. Tickets for Sunday are at £4 on the door.

Friday
4th August - The return of CAPTAIN EVERYTHING!
headlining a very busy night indeed. 5 bands, 1 night! Must be mad. Supports
come from THE DEADNETTLES (who just get
better), DRIVE BY THEORY,
ALMABOOBIES, and introducing MASENKO.
THE FREAKS UNION (from Hull) return to headline the Bivouac on Friday July 7th, ably supported by FOR NO REASON, DRIVE BY THEORY, and LOST HEARTS. I suggest people get there early as this should do very well.
Friday 14th July, Bivouac welcomes an all local affair with Lincolnshire touring bands, THE IDLERS, I WAS A CUB SCOUT, THE DEAD NETTLES, and first timers at the Biv, 7 DAY WEEKEND.
Finally Friday 21st July, Bivouac has an excellent line up of UK and USA touring outfits. PICKLED DICK (UK Ska Punk contenders) headline the night, with New York's Antifolk originator LACH returning for a 4th show, and the 3rd Bivouac performance by Redditch's indie rockers KEIKO. Three touring acts who have never shared the same bill before. An excellent night indeed!

23rd May 2006 -Last gig of May, before our 6th Anniversary show on the 2nd June, we have an all local affair. GREAT BRITISH SMILE, DEPOL, THE SMALL PRINT and THE LOST BOYS all play this Friday 26th May.
June 2nd is our 6th Birthday. Who would have thought we would still be going? Well I for one did. Headlining from Leeds we have invited back the entertaining garage rock/ska band BUZZKILL, with the excellent THE BLUE ROUTE and dynamic COLORPOOL, plus one other band to be announced.
12th May 2006 -Tonight's show has had to be postponed due to various circumstances. The main reason is a clash of dates. We have been at Grimsby's Auditorium all week, handling the Sound Installation and Engineering for their production of The Wizard of Oz. We apologize for any disruption this has caused, and will reschedule the Get Amped date to later in the year.
While on Saturday (6th May), Bivouac welcomes from Nashville USA, BULLETS TO BROADWAY ("High Octane...Driving Pop-Punk") with AFRAID TO SHOOT STRANGERS, HONESTY FOLLOWS and ZERO POINT. BULLETS TO BROADWAY feature ex members of TEEN IDOLS, REHASHER and ARMY OF PONCH.

25th April 2006 - Coming up in two weeks time we have two gigs over the weekend. Friday 5th May CATAPULT headline, with I WAS A CUB SCOUT (hotly tipped indie electronic dance combo from Collingham), featuring Will from 16 Hours, and debut shows from local's VIRILE and KALLOUS.
25th April
2006 - Meanwhile
on Saturday 6th May, we proudly welcome to the Bivouac, (from USA) BULLETS
TO BROADWAY, with local support from AFRAID
TO SHOOT STRANGERS, HONESTLY FOLLOWS
and ZERO POINT.
24th April 2006 - A big thank you to all those that came out to The Bivouac on Friday 21st April to see Harlow's WORLD ON FIRE, THE SMALL PRINT and THE ABSENT MINDED. All three bands played excellent sets and we all hope World on Fire's van is repaired soon with a new clutch. An excellent night.
This coming Saturday (15th) we have the return of JESSE JAMES (from London), with ONE WORD POEM and FISTFUL OF SOUND stepping in at very short notice.
2nd April 2006 -This coming Friday (7th) we have PELE (changing their name to THE GREAT BRITISH SMILE). Also playing that night will be DRIVING ON THE RIGHT, CATAPULT and FOR NO REASON. Pele have decided to change their name after it was discovered that there had been another PELE signed to Polydor in the early nineties.
DUMPVALVE will again headline the Bivouac on Friday 14th April. Supported by Lincoln's PASSING OF A 1000 HEARTS, CLARAMASS and another local band to be announced soon.
JESSE JAMES will be headlining the Bivouac on Saturday 15th April. FAILSAFE were to support, but can no longer play that show. Local Supports will announced shortly.
Saturday 1st April, Bivouac welcomes from USA THE HINT, touring with Malvern's SECOND MONDAY and Collingham's 16 HOURS.
16th March 2006 -This Friday (17th) sees debut shows at The Bivouac by BLACK HOLES, VINCENT BLACK SHADOW, and KOWALSKI, together with the return of the three Australian sisters, ALMABOOBIES. The Frontline have had to pull out of this show due to other work commitments.
Friday 24th March we have from Bristol, the return of, LEFTSIDE BRAIN, with local heroes HAPPY MESS and THE DEAD NETTLES. Plus another local support to be confirmed.
Wednesday 29th March, Sam and Dave put on another one of their alternative shows with visitors FOALS, GREAT ESKIMO HOAX, and two local supports.
15th March 2006 -Lots more shows coming up over the next few months, see Upcoming Gigs.
Contrary to the rumour mills, local bands can always get shows at The Bivouac. Just call the office on 01522 539883 or 01522 528964 at any time, and leave a message on the answer machines. Please leave your contact number, and we can ring you back. It's that easy. Some folk claim it's impossible to get hold of Steve Hawkins. It's not if you leave a message, that's what the answer machines are for. After all, being very busy, I'm hardly likely to waiting by the phone all day and night just to pick up your call, am I. No message...no return call. Simple.
15th March 2006 -Four shows in a row last week. Thanks to all that came down.
Wednesday's Louisville Kentucky night had a poor turn out, for what transpired to be great shows from Coliseum and Lords, while The Bombdogs played their best show to date.
The Thursday
Fight/Cigarette/Catapult
show could have been better attended, but the Music TV Production company from
California got some excellent material, and seemed very happy. The
Fight and Catapult played absolute blinders.
Friday's show, with headliners Rotary Ten, was practically a sell out. All four bands played excellent sets. A fantastic night.
While Saturday played host to 999, who comfortably polished off the weekend with a very professional and accomplished set of their hit 3 minute/3 chord classics.
5th March 2006 - As NO COMPLY have unfortunately called it a day, their previously booked next appearance on Saturday 15th April 2006 will be replaced by the return of JESSE JAMES, supported by FAILSAFE (making their Bivouac debut).
This coming
week sees several excellent shows hitting town.
Wednesday 15th March - COLISEUM
(USA), LORDS (USA), STABBED
IN AUTUMN (Lincoln) and THE BOMBDOGS (Lincoln)
- Doors 7.30pm £ 6.00
Thursday 16th March - THE
FIGHT (Dudley), CIGARETTE (USA), CATAPULT
(Lincolnshire) - Doors 8pm £ 5.00
Friday
17th March - ROTARY TEN (Sleaford/Sheffield),
ONE WORD POEM (Lincoln), SPECIAL
GUESTS (Lincolnshire) and THE IDLERS (Lincoln)
- Doors 8pm £ 5.00
5th March 2006 - Thanks to all that came down on Friday. It was an excellent show by all three bands. CAMPAIGN FOR REAL TIME are actually from Boston, Mass, USA; and not, as I believed previously, New York City. Everybody loved them. Thanks also to SECOND SMILE and SOSUMI.
A SIDE NOTE FOR MY CRITICS. Despite all the permanent carping by my 'little lincoln' minded critics in this very provincial British city, I'm still the only promoter who consistently and regularly plays host to the widest range of National and International Bands. Others may briefly come and go, but I (Steve Hawkins) and the Bivouac just keep going. But then, apparently, I don't know what I'm doing and I don't have any track record whatsoever! Try 19 years...!
3rd March 2006 - Just In. Mark Thomas (DIY) presents on Wednesday 8th March (from USA) COLISEUM, supported by LORDS (USA), and Lincoln's STABBED IN AUTUMN and THE BOMBDOGS. Doors open at 7.30pm, tickets are £6 on the door.
This Friday we have CAMPAIGN FOR REAL TIME from New York City, featuring ex INSTRUCTION members. They are on a joint UK tour with regulars SECOND SMILE. Both excellent bands. Local supports come from AFRAID TO SHOOT STRANGERS (back to 4 piece) and SOSUMI.
Don't miss the Thursday week show (9th March), being filmed by an American TV Production Company, featuring THE FIGHT, CIGARETTE (from California, USA) and our own CATAPULT.
Following night, Friday 10th March, we have indie combos ROTARY TEN, ONE WORD POEM and THE IDLERS.
20th Feb 2006 - Three shows this week. Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Something different each night.
This Thursday (23rd) Sam and Dave put on three out of town bands. Mister Lee, Fabulous Fox and Mark Jasper. All very alternative stuff.
This Friday (24th), Bivouac welcomes back the excellent guitar combo from Leicester, TEAM. Indie Sonic Youth inspired guitar four piece are well worth seeing. Support comes from new local groups Axis of Love and A Day Of... .
Sunday's show (26th) sees the return of Hull's Freaks Union. Punk Rock night with local supports from MCD and Plunger. A New Days Enemy also play their first gig in Lincoln.
16th Feb 2006 -This Friday (17th Feb) we definitely have GET AMPED from Bournemouth headlining. Due to a misunderstanding, their Tour of China is to take place in April/May. The final line up for Friday 17th is GET AMPED, THE TOMMYS, TV KICKS (formerly Sons of The South) and DRIVE BY THEORY.
14th Feb 2006 - Just a reminder that Thursday (9th March) sees the return of The Fight, with USA band Cigarette, and support from Catapult. This show will be filmed by an American Music TV Production company. Get there early.
14th Feb 2006 -This Friday (17th Feb) we have all girl teenage band The Tommys, with TV Kicks (formerly Sons of The South) and Drive By Theory. Get Amped were to headline, but have apparently been offered dates in China. Lincoln/UK or China? I think we know what the band has opted for. Best of luck in China, and we look forward to seeing them back at The Bivouac in the near future.
7th Feb 2006 - This Thursday (9th) we have Hi Tech Jet, Once Over Twice and local's Plunger. Friday sees the return of Redditch's Keiko, Bristol's I Am The Door, with local's The Blue Route and Sosumi.
1st Feb 2006 - This Friday (3rd) sees the rescheduled Xmas show with returning headliner's Captain Everything. They will joined by the three piece from Newcastle, The Motorettes. Playing the same show will be Colorpool, Catapult and Pele. Five excellent bands all on one night for a Fiver. I must be mad!
1st Feb 2006 - Thanks to all that came down last Friday. The place was packed again. Thanks to The Jubilees for headlining, The Dead Nettles and Fistful of Sound. The Bivouac is a venue/club promoting bands that play original material only. Despite a full set of their own material, Fistful of Sound ended their slot with a Pink Floyd cover. This must be frowned upon. Nevertheless I look forward to seeing them play here again, but without the cover.
The Fight have had to postpone their whole January tour to March. The Fight will definitely be playing Lincoln again, together with the American band Cigarette. This show will now be on Thursday 9th March. Catapult will be supporting.
Plus, The Fight's and Cigarette's performances will be filmed by a TV Production Company all the way from California. I kid you not. The filming is part of a special documentary on the two bands to be broadcast later in the year.
